When CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother” returns with back-to-back episodes on Monday, Sept. 19, Cobie Smulders’ character, media professional Robin, will be kissing guys.

“Always. Multiple,” Smulders assures Zap2it during a break in filming on the show’s Los Angeles sets.

One guy of the “multiple” looks to be former “House” star and Obama White House staffer Kal Penn, who has signed on to a recurring role in “How I Met Your Mother” as Kevin, a potential love interest for Robin. His first episode is scheduled to air Oct. 3.

“I know that he’s going to be on the show,” says Smulders. “I’m going to be meeting him through therapy that Robin’s going to be taking. That’s all we know. But he’s going to be with us for a while.”

Whoever thought Barney Stinson was the marrying kind? But more importantly — who is he marrying?

How I Met Your Mother’s season finale opened up a whole new mystery while still evading the original one regarding the identity of the titular mother. But creator/executive producer Craig Thomas assures that Season 7 will offer answers and even more changes for our beloved quintet. Robin gets a new love interest for one (hello, Kal Penn! Goodbye, Michael Trucco!), Marshall gets a new job, of course, and “Ted Mosby, Architect” will finally be a great pickup line. Don’t believe us? Keep reading.

So Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) does get married, right?
Craig Thomas:
Barney does get married. It’s not the smoothest wedding day, but it’s epic — truly epic. In the premiere, we definitely pick up right where we left off. … We also see Punchy’s wedding in the premiere. We start at Barney’s wedding in the future. He’s having the jitters. Ted says, “We’ve already been to the worst wedding of all time” — Punchy’s. And we flash back to September of 2011 when the gang finally goes to the long-talked-about Punchy wedding. We had the two weddings inform each other.

So for months, many fans and online outlets have been focused on the question of whose wedding we’ll see in the finale. And then, boom! You and Craig pulled a fast one with the revelation that Lily’s preggers, even as you also told us that Barney would eventually be getting hitched. Which was the bigger bombshell in the scheme of things?
Carter Bays: The pregnacy is definitely the big one for us in terms of where the story’s going. Finding out Barney’s the groom is big. But in terms of next season, [the pregnancy] is the game changer. And it feels personal for me, since my wife is eight months pregnant.

Did you always plan on having the pregnancy reveal at the end of the season?
Bays: This was definitely always in the cards since we plotted out this season. We weighed all the pros and cons of adding a baby. And then we wanted to tell a story that involved Marshall going through hell [before]. We wanted a happy ending. We structured it so there’d be this built-in silver lining after losing his dad. In the end, the story was about generations, of life moving on.
