Tired of weeping during How I Met Your Mother? Join the club. Co-creator and EP Craig Thomas owes us all a box of tissues and a big hug for the emotional turmoil we’ve experienced watching Marshall deal with his father’s death. The good news? Thomas tells me there’s major funny on the way. For one, Marshall is in Minnesota for the next two episodes, and in the Feb. 7 episode, he (like many fans) is looking for a distraction from all the sadness.
The latest episode How I Met Your Mother, “Bad News,” took a very dramatic turn in the final scene, when Lily told Marshall that his father died. Speaking about this storyline this week and whether he was worried about the tone, Jason Segel said, “No, I was very excited. I like having a little drama in my comedy, because that’s what real life is like. It’s like James Brooks style. There is a 10% more demonstrative style on a sitcom. You have to sell a joke and all of that. And [with] this, the job is just to be honest, which I love. It’s my favorite.”
Segel revealed there was a lot of work by the HIMYM producers to keep this plot turn under wraps, explaining, “In the script we received, the last scene was, ‘Marshall, I’m pregnant.’ And then they told us on the day, ‘No, that’s not what’s happening.’ And they gave us the alternate pages.”

Jack Black gaat samen met Jason Segel (Marshall uit How I Met Your Mother) de kersthit ‘Peace On Earth/ Little Drummer Boy’coveren. Het origineel van Bing Crosby en David Bowie is erg ‘mellow’, zoals Black het omschrijft, maar de nieuwe versie is ‘gerockified’. Wie is Bowie en wie is Bing in deze verdeling? Volgens Black zit het zo: ‘Segel heeft de soul en uiterlijk van Bowie, en hijzelf de stem. Segel klinkt weer als Bing.’ De twee kennen elkaar van de film Gulliver’s Travels, waar ze allebei in spelen. Ze maakten de track voor bij de animatie van CollegeHumor, die hieronder te zien is en de track is ook te koop via iTunes. In het kader van de kerstgedachte gaat de opbrengst naar een goed doel.
