How I Met Your Mother‘s Josh Radnor is playing favorites!

You’d think he’d be rooting for Ted and the mysterious mother to finally get together, but guess what Josh told us exclusively about his character’s future wife…

“To be honest, I don’t care,” he tell us. Now, before all you HIMYM fans start threatening to stab Josh with yellow umbrellas, please hear him out. “I don’t say that dismissively. It’s too long a title, but the proper title for the show should be: This is all the stuff that happened before I met your mother. And when you look back you’ll realize everything had to happen so that everything else could happen. That’s why it’s one of the few multi-camera sitcoms that people pay attention to like it’s Lost or something. They really look for clues and yellow umbrellas.”

When Zoey fixes Ted up on a date with her cousin, the gang resorts to calling her “Honey” after learning how naive she is.  Meanwhile, Ted calls an intervention on himself after having an epiphany about his feelings for Zoey, and Barney gets acquainted with Honey in Ted’s place

Nothing says “very special episode” like no cold open.

After the sudden death of Marshall’s father on the most recent “How I Met Your Mother,” the series picks things back up at his Minnesota funeral, with the gang struggling to help their friend cope.

“It started form a place of real sadness,” series co-creator Carter Bays tells Zap2it. “It’s especially hard because Bill Fagerbakke (Marvin Eriksen Sr.) was there at the table read. You just killed off his character and here he is sitting with you. We address it in the episode with laughter.”

“HIMYM” does end up compensating for tragedy with a surprising amount of humor. Lily’s attempts at comforting her resentful mother-in-law, Robin’s Mary Poppins bag of grief accessories (cigarettes, booze, DVDs, phone chargers…) and the series’ hilarious presentation of Midwestern ritual all successfully lighten the mood.
